Superconductivity in Heavy Fermion Compounds
The heavy electron state in intermetallic lanthanide and actinide compounds has its origin in the interplay of strong Coulomb repulsion in the 4fand 5fshells and their hybridisation with conduction band states. Heavy quasiparticles have mostly been observed in Ceand U-based intermetallics which are therefore at the focus of this review. Ideally the ground state in these strongly correlated elec...
متن کاملMultiband superconductivity in BiS2-based layered compounds.
A mean-field treatment is presented of a square lattice two-orbital-model for [Formula: see text] taking into account intra- and inter-orbital superconductivity. A rich phase diagram involving both types of superconductivity is presented as a function of the ratio between the couplings of electrons in the same and different orbitals ([Formula: see text]) and electron doping x. With the help of ...
متن کاملSuperconductivity in anti-post-perovskite vanadium compounds
Superconductivity, which is a quantum state induced by spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking, frequently emerges in low-dimensional materials. Hence, low dimensionality has long been considered as necessary to achieve high superconducting transition temperatures (TC). The recently discovered post-perovskite (ppv) MgSiO3, which constitutes the Earth's lowermost mantle (D" layer), has attracted sig...
متن کاملNovel stable compounds in the Mg-O system under high pressure.
Using ab initio evolutionary simulations, we explore the entire range of possible stoichiometries for the Mg-O system at pressures of up to 850 GPa. In addition to MgO, our calculations find that two extraordinary compounds MgO2 and Mg3O2 become thermodynamically stable at 116 GPa and 500 GPa, respectively. Detailed chemical bonding analysis shows large charge transfer in all magnesium oxides. ...
متن کاملPrediction of novel stable compounds in the Mg-Si-O system under exoplanet pressures
The Mg-Si-O system is the major Earth and rocky planet-forming system. Here, through quantum variable-composition evolutionary structure explorations, we have discovered several unexpected stable binary and ternary compounds in the Mg-Si-O system. Besides the well-known SiO2 phases, we have found two extraordinary silicon oxides, SiO3 and SiO, which become stable at pressures above 0.51 TPa and...
